Counselor's Corner
Class of 2008
Ring Ceremony
Every year, our school holds a very important assembly. This annual event is our ring ceremony for juniors. This year, the ring ceremony will be September 21st from 9:20 - 10:30 a.m. This is an important event to our juniors, please make plans to attend.
ACT/SAT
Students who are interested in furthering their education beyond high school need to take the ACT two to three times this year, especially if he or she will be applying for scholarships. If a student plans to go to an out of state institution, he or she may need to take the SAT depending on the school’s admission requirements. Be sure, if you want your child to take these exams, that your child registers for them.
Discover Day
Planned for sometime in November, our Junior class will have the opportunity to learn about various career opportunities. Discover day will incorporate careers in the military, civilian occupations, technical careers, and college options. This program will be carried out during the first half of the day. Our goal is to expose our students to various post high school options. Various guest speakers will present sessions to our juniors and provide them with information that will help them with future options and plans. Discover Day is part of our “Are you ready?” program.
Student Agendas
New to Alma High School last year, all students are being issued an agenda. The agenda has a calendar, a place for students to write assignments and tasks, academic tips, and a hallway passport. The agenda is being used for multiple purposes. The high school faculty hope that the agenda will improve communication and teach students time management and prioritizing skills. In addition, the agenda has a hallway passport which will be utilized as a hall pass system. Students who need to leave class will fill out the passport and carry their agenda with them at all times. This will provide an easier way of tracking students throughout the day. Each student is given one agenda. Because of the expense of the agenda, students who lose their agenda will have to purchase replacement agendas for $5.00.
