| Desktop Publishing I is a one-semester course that combines the versatility of the microcomputer with page design software, enabling students to produce materials of near photo-typed quality. The course includes page composition, layout, design, editing functions, and a variety of printing options.
Textbook:
Essentials for Design: Adobe InDesign CS2
Materials:
The following will be needed each day in class:
Paper and pen/pencil Assignments:
Assignments will consist of documents created at the computer, special projects, and etc. Special projects might include creating a bookmark, recipe card, cookbook, menu, program, magazine cover, and etc.
Assignments other than computer documents will be due on assigned date. These assignments turned in one day late will count as ½ credit. No written assignments will be taken more than one day late.
Computer projects will be printed for a grade after the date completed. If the selected document has not been completed, a zero will result; therefore, follow directions carefully when completing, labeling and naming documents and finish all assignments on time. Make sure all assignments are saved EXACTLY as indicated in the instructions.
All assignments should be done alone unless group assignments are made. Cheating will result in a zero and an immediate loss of computer privileges (this includes sharing answers on chapter reviews).
Labeling and Saving Computer Documents:
Each document keyed at the computer must have the Student’s Name/File Name typed on the document. Documents without this label in its entirety will not receive full credit. Documents received without the student’s name typed on the document will receive NO credit.
All documents keyed in should be saved in the student’s personal account ( F:\ ) and not on the hard drive.
Tardiness:
Students must be in their assigned seats when the tardy bell rings or they will be counted tardy. Four tardies will count as an unexcused absence for semester test exemption purposes.
Makeup Work:
When class is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to get assignments on the first day back. (SDC students must come in before or after school during detention to receive assignments and work on them.) All computer make-up work must be done in the classroom. Time should be made before school, after school, and/or during lunch to make up work. In addition, if your computer skills are not efficient, it may be necessary to come in extra to make up assignments you are unable to complete in class. A maximum of 3 days will be allowed to complete computer work unless other arrangements are made.
Grading:
Computer assignments, review activities, special projects, and quizzes will make up 80% of the semester grade with the remaining 20% coming from a comprehensive semester test.
