Introduction to Travel and Tourism is a one-semester in-depth study of worldwide travel, transportation, and tourism. Students are introduced to the industry as a whole and the job opportunities that are available. The course covers resource allocation, technology, and social, organizational, and technological systems.

Textbook:
Access: Introduction to Travel and Tourism

Materials:
The following will be needed in class each day:

Small 3-ring binder with pockets (½ to 1 inch)
Paper
Pen/Pencil

Assignments:
Assignments will consist of work assigned from the book, documents created at the computer, and/or special projects. Special projects might include Internet research, presentations, group work, etc.

Assignments will be due on time. Assignments turned in one day late will count as ½ credit. No assignments will be taken more than one day late.

All assignments should be done alone unless group assignments are made. Cheating will result in a zero and an immediate loss of computer privileges (this includes sharing answers on book work).

Computer Assignments:
Each assignment done at the computer must be saved in the student’s personal account ( F:\ ) and not on the hard drive. A folder will be created for this class to store all computer assignments in.

Students are to adhere to all policies concerning using the computer at school. Students and parents should look over the Computer Use Policy in the student agenda. Students and parent will need to sign a Computer Usage form before the student can use the computer in this class.

Makeup Work:
When class is missed, it is the student’s responsibility to get assignments on the first day back. Students in detention must come in before or after school during detention to receive assignments and work on them (if a student is in SDC, they will not be given a day to make up work.)

Grading:
All assignments will make up 80% of the semester grade with the remaining 20% coming from a comprehensive semester test.

Tardiness:
Students must be in their assigned seats when the tardy bell rings or they will be counted tardy. Four tardies will count as an unexcused absence for semester test exemption purposes.
