The COOL (Assertive) Response to Bullying:
Looking Cool![]()
Thinking Cool![]()
Acting Cool![]()
There are four different ways to act cool when you are bullied:
1. Look the Look
Stay calm and look straight ahead |
Ignore the bully. Don't look at or talk to the bully. |
2. Talk the Talk
With a calm voice and talking in private if possible, use the 4-Step Assertion Plan:
1. Tell the bully what you don't like |
2. Tell the bully how his/her behavior makes you feel |
3. Tell the bully what behavior you want |
4. Tell the bully what will happen if he/she doesn't stop |
3. Walk the Walk
Stand Straight |
Look directly at the bully |
Use a calm voice |
Do not call names or act like you do not respect the bully |
Use the last two steps of the 4-Step Assertion Plan: |
Tell the bully what behavior you want. "The notebook belongs to me. I'd like for you to give it to me."
Tell the bully what will happen if he/she does not stop (go to authority for help.) "I'm not going to fight you, but if you don't give it to me, I'm going to have to go to Mr. Warnock."
