Annotated Bibliography Card (MLA 4.3)

Annotated Bibliography Card

The following list provides suggested guidelines for writing bibliographic citations and annotated bibliography cards:

Obtain information for a citation directly from the source (not the card catalog). Use the title page information when citing a book.

Double space the entire card.

Start the first line of the citation at the margin and indent all remaining lines one-half inch.

End each part of the citation with a period.

Omit a part of the citation when that part does not apply to your source.

Annotations begin immediately following the last period in the citation and continue to be double spaced and indented.

Putting your name, library, and call number on the card may save you time in the future.

Works Cited Page

There are four MLA bibliographic headers that can be used (MLA 4.3).

Works Cited
Works Consulted
Annotated Bibliography
Selected Bibliography

You may put one or more of the above pages in your papers. All pages are set up the same (MLA 4.4).

Leave a one inch margin around each page.
Double space the entire page.
Label each page in the top right corner with your last name and page number.
Arrange citations alphabetically by their first letters.
Start the first line of each citation at the left margin and indent all remaining lines in that citation one half inch.

Special "Works Cited" Page Rules (MLA 4.6.5)

When you have several sources by the same author on your bibliography page, you can replace the author's name with three dashes and a period. See the "Sample 'Works Cited' Page" below for examples under the author of "Samuels".
