Mrs. Sue Walden
Sue Walden is beginning her 32nd year in teaching. She is a graduate of Ashdown High School in Ashdown, Arkansas. She graduated from East Texas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood. She is certified Pre-K -12 in Music Education/Choral Performance in Texas & Arkansas.
She began her teaching career with first grade at Burke Street Elementary School in Ashdown, Arkansas in 1987. She took a three year leave of absence staying with her young children. During this time she worked maternity and sick leaves for 3rd grade, 5th grade, and 6th-12th grade music. She then began teaching K-12 Music, Choir, & Band at Horatio Public Schools for eight years. In 2003, she moved to the River Valley and taught K-12 Music & Choir at Lavaca Public Schools for two years. She has been teaching music for 3rd-5th grade at Alma Intermediate School for the last 16 years. She was selected as AIS Teacher of the Year and District Teacher of the Year in 2019.
Sue has been married to her husband Joe for 35 years. He has been pastor at Oak Grove Baptist Church for 18 years. They have two children. Her son Tye is an officer in the Army National Guard and married to Kelly who works for the state. Her daughter Amy is a coach and teacher for Alma Middle School and is married to David Smothers a teacher and coach at Chaffin Jr. High in Ft. Smith Schools.
