National Champions HonoredThe Alma High School Cheer Team won the Game Day National Championship at the National Federation of State High School Associations competition, conducted by the Universal Cheer Association this past weekend in Orlando, Florida. The team will be honored in ceremonies this Friday night, February 16, 2018, at the Alma High School basketball game in Charles B. Dyer Arena on the Alma High School campus. Awards and introductions will be made approximately 7:30, with an encore presentation of their Championship performance at approximately 8:15.The Alma High School Cheer team consists of 17 students in grades ten through twelve. The group was undefeated in competition this season, culminating in the Arkansas Championship as well as the National Championship.

Most Outstanding Airedale
Sierra Bailey and Garrison Jensen were selected by the Alma High School Faculty as the Most Outstanding Airedale girl and boy. The Activities Court was presented on February 9th. See the full list of students honored HERE.
Virtual RealityMr. Collins and Mrs. Parker spent a day at the Guy Fenter Educational Coop learning about Virtual Reality. AHS received a grant, from Facebook for the state of Arkansas, to incorporate VR into computer science and engineering classes. AHS received an Acer Predator laptop, Oculus rift with touch controllers, Ricoh Theta 360 degree camera, Vivitar tripod, and 30 cardboard from TechStart!
Congratulations to our high school students who competed at Thespian Festival this past week. Over forty Alma High School students attended the AR Thespian Festival in Jonesboro, AR this past weekend! Our tech team, the Pacmules, won the Tech Challenge. They are the defending International Tech Challenge Champions, and now will get to go defend their title in Lincoln, NE at the International Thespian Festival this summer. Pacmule team member Weston Breshears placed first in Knot Tying and first place in the Light Hanging & Focusing Event. Weston Breshsears, Bruce Crisel, Paige Lasiter, and Logan Roe placed first in the Backdrop Fold Team Event.
Claudia Fillippi and Israel Jackson received a superior rating in their solo musical performances and will also represent Alma at the International Thespian Festival this summer. Loren Smither was named an Honor Thespian and received the Lisa Areys Scholarship for $600. She also received multiple college scholarship offers for Theatre.

Final Home Game vs ClarksvilleCome out tonight and support our high school teams as they take on the Clarksville Panthers. There will be four games with JV Girls starting at 4:00. Our seniors will also be honored tonight. Join us for a great night of competition and festivities.
Junior High Teams Set for Regional Games Next Week
Both of our junior high teams qualified for Regionals by finishing 3rd in the River Valley Conference. Both teams will play on Wednesday, February 21 at 8:15 PM. The Regional Tournament is at Bentonville West this year. Congratulations on your successful season so far.

Patti Webb-National Finalist for America's Most Spirited Athletic TrainerAlma Athletic Trainer Patti Webb was nominated and recently named as one of four finalists for the “America’s Most Spirited Athletic Trainer” award for the 2018 Varsity School Spirit Awards. This award recognizes athletic trainers who go above and beyond their job duties and work to enhance the overall school spirit at their school. Alma High School would not be the same without Ms. Patti and we are thrilled to see her recognized on a national level for the great work she does every day. We wish Ms. Patti best of luck as the winner is of the award is announced May 12th in Orlando, FL. Thank you Ms. Patti!
Alma Intermediate School Honor Choir Set to Sing National AnthemHonor Choir will sing the National Anthem on Friday, February 16, at approximately 5:45 p.m. Students will gather in the Crabtree Gym at 5:30 p.m.
Newly National Board Certified Teachers RecognizedOn February 8th our newly National Board Certified teachers were recognized at our monthly School Board of Education meeting. Teachers recognized were Jennifer Pitts and Vicky Limbocker from Alma Middle School and Sara Putman from Alma High School. Congratulations again on this achievement.
Congratulations 8th Grade Basketball TeamsCongratulations to our 8th-grade basketball teams on completing the season with strong records. Our girls finished the season with a record of 16-5 and our boys with a record of 18-2. Congratulations to Coach Folkerts and Coach Rushing.

Soccer to Kick Off Thursday, February 22
The Airedale and Lady Airedale Soccer Teams are set to play the first soccer games in Alma High School history with a matchup against the Danville Little Johns Thursday, February 22 in Danville. The Lady Airedales will kick off against the Lady Little Johns at 5PM followed by the boys at 7PM. This week’s game will be the first of several as the inaugural season will last from February 22nd to May 1st.The Airedales & Lady Airedales open home play Tuesday, February 27th vs. Prairie Grove at Airedale Stadium. A great turnout for the Lady Airedales has 30 student-athletes, led by ten senior girls. The Airedales roster has been set at 26 players, led by three senior boys. Both groups are excited to be representing Alma High School as well as being a part of soccer program history.
