    Dear ASD Parents,

Please take a moment to envision sending your child to another country to live with a family you have never met.  Now, think about being that family for a student coming to Alma High School.  We are fortunate to be in a community of families that not only understands the importance of nurturing young people through new experiences, but also a community of families that is willing to pitch in to care for others.

As you may or may not know, Alma High provides an opportunity for you to give your children a better understanding of the world around them by exposing them to people from other cultures through the international students that attend our school.  These students enrich our community, contributing to our school by sharing their culture and their talents.

If you are interested in making a significant impact on a young person's life, there is an opportunity to host one of these international students for the upcoming 2019-2020 school year by visiting our website. https://www.almasd.net/site/default.aspx?DomainID=104

When you decide to look at our website, take a moment to watch the video’s of previous students.  Every time I watch them, I understand deeply the change we are making in the lives of so many around us.

Hosting families receive financial assistance ($400 monthly), to help with the expenses of hosting a student. A room, meals and a loving family is all that is required to support an international student. You will become family to your international student and they will learn about your values and traditions by participating in activities and holidays with you.

Please contact me so I can explain the program further and answer any questions you may have about hosting. You can reach me via email at eparham@almasd.net, or by phone at 479-462-5100.

We hope you will consider opening your heart and home to an international student, allowing him to see America through your eyes. You will be gaining a new family member while expanding your own family's world view, and also learning about your student's traditions, language, food and more!

    Sincerely,

    Eileen
