Ron Haught

Ron Haught is beginning his 27th year on the Alma School Broad. He attended the Missouri School of Mines and Metallurgy in Rolla, Missouri and Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois. Ron served in the U. S. Army for 4 1/2 years serving 1 of those years in Vietnam as an artillery executive officer receiving the Army Commendation Medal and 2 Bronze Stars. His last year of service in the Army was served at Fort Sill in Lawton, Oklahoma as a battery commander training men to be officers at the Officer Candidate School.

Ron was a State Farm Insurance agent in Alma for 33 years as an independent contract agent before retiring in December, 2014. Ron has been married to Lynda ( formerly Lynda Crawford of Alma) for 46 years and they have two sons, Matt and Jason, who attended Alma Schools for all 13 years. They spend as much time as possible with their 6 wonderful grandchildren.

Mike Higgins

Mike grew up in Fort Smith  and graduated from Southside High School in 1973. He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from University of Arkansas-Little Rock in 1977. He moved to Alma in 1982 after marrying Paula Coleman , a 1978 graduate of Alma High School.  Mike was elected to the Alma Board of Education in 1992. Mike and Paula have been married 38 years and have five children and five grandchildren.  Three of his children graduated from Alma High School  and the two still at home are students in the Alma School District.

Carrie Jernigan

Carrie Roberts Jernigan was born, raised and graduated high school in Alma.  She is a 2000 graduate of Alma High School where she graduated with High Honors.  She was a three (3) year starter on the Volleyball and Basketball team where she received All-Conference Honors. 

After graduating from Alma, she attended the University of Arkansas where she received her bachelor's degree in computer science.  Carrie then received her juris doctorate degree from the University of Arkansas Law School in Fayetteville in 2006.  She came home upon graduation and in 2010 became managing partner at Settle & Jernigan Law Firm.  Carrie has been named Best of the Best attorney in the River Valley.  She also was named a Top 40 Lawyer Under 40 in the nation for 2017.  Carrie also served 3 terms as a member of the Crawford County Quorum Court. 

Carrie is married to Shawn Jernigan, an Alma graduate, and they have two daughters, Harper and Campbell and a son, Amos.

Chapen Rucker

Chapen Rucker was elected in 2013 to the Alma Board of Education. He is a 2002 graduate of Alma High School and a 2006 graduate of the University of Arkansas with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. A lifelong resident of Alma, Chapen is married to Lyndsay (Carter) of Van Buren and they have a daughter, Addison. In 2017 Addison became a 4 th generation Airedale when she began kindergarten.

Chapen received Master Board Member certification in 2016 by the Arkansas School Board Association and is a 2008 graduate of Leadership Crawford County. He is a homebuilder for the family business, Rucker Fine Homes, in Alma.

Pat Whorton

Pat Whorton is a retired educator after thirty-two years in education.  
 
She is a 1969 graduate of Hartford High School and worked for an electronics firm, a finance company, and in hospital administration for several years before enrolling in college in 1977.  She has an Associates Degree from Williams Baptist College, a Bachelors Degree in Education from Arkansas Tech University, and a Masters Degree in Administration from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.  
 
In 1981, Pat began her first teaching position at County Line Elementary School.  She taught second and third grades for five years.  In 1986, she relocated to Alma and began teaching kindergarten at Alma Primary School.  In 1993, she became the Assistant Principal at Alma Intermediate School,  and five years later she moved to Alma Middle School as the Principal and spent the next 15 years in this position.  She retired from the Alma School District in July, 2013.
 
Pat is married to Louis Whorton, former women's basketball coach at UAFS, and they have one son.  
 
In addition to enjoying retirement, Pat also enjoys volunteering her time within the school district,  serves on the Morgan Nick Foundation Board, and is a member of the Alma Police Focus Group.

John Ware

John Ware was elected to the Alma Board of Education in 2019.
After graduating from Alma High School with honors in 1999, he
earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of
Arkansas and an MBA with an emphasis in Leadership and Ethics
from John Brown University.

John is employed by Arkansas Oklahoma Gas Corporation as
Director of Customer Development, and currently serves as Chair of
the Arkansas Gas Association. He is a 2017 graduate of Leadership
Fort Smith and has served three terms on the Alma City Council.
John is married to Whitney (Rucker), also an Alma graduate, and
they have two daughters, Sullivan and Reagan, who are fourth
generation Alma Airedales.
