ALMA — Poteau sophomore Dax Collins broke free for a 92-yard touchdown run with under two minutes to play in the first half Friday as the Pirates rolled to a 35-12 win over the Airedales at Citizens Bank Field at Airedale Stadium.
Poteau (2-1) had scored moments earlier following a long punt return to take a 21-6 lead on Collins' 7-yard run.
Alma (0-2) trailed 7-6 after one quarter of play. Dylan Tucker's 15-yard touchdown put the visitors ahead 7-0. Conner Stacy, who had nine receptions for 158 yards, set up Alma's first score with a 39-yard run to the 1.
Reagan Birchfield's 1-yard run pulled Alma within 7-6.
Todd Mattox scored on a 3-yard run to give the Pirates a 14-6 lead early in the second quarter.
Alma missed two chances in the first half, failing to convert on fourth down from the Pirates' 20 and turning the ball over at the 5.
Ben Brooks' 5-yard run accounted for Poteau's final TD with 2:32 left in the game.
Sophomore Jackson Daily led Alma on its second TD march of the game, with Brady Noyes rumbling in from the 8 to account for the game's final points.
Alma was held to 208 yards passing as a team and 90 yards rushing.
