Three Seed

Alma senior Drew Battles knew he and tennis doubles partner Nathan Gibson would one day find their backs up against the wall.

That happened this week at the conference meet in Clarksville. Fortunately, the Alma duo had an answer.

Battles and Gibson secured the No. 3 seed at next week's state meet in Hot Springs.

"It's a big accomplishment, especially since we didn't make it last year," Battles said.

Battles paired up with Drew Montgomery in 2019.  He and Gibson coasted through conference action.

Battles said he was happy with the team's late win Tuesday to earn the No. 3 seed.

"That's big," he said. "You don't want to be the four (seed) facing a No. 1 seed right off the bat at the state meet."

Alma falls to MH

The Lady Airedales dropped a three-set decision to Mountain Home Tuesday to fall to 1-5 in the 5A-West volleyball action.

Alma trailed 7-6 in the opening set before the Lady Bombers ran off six straight points. Mountain Home took the first two sets 25-14 and 25-16, respectively.

Alma led 21-18 in the third game before falling, 25-22.

Lillie Warnock had 10 kills and two blocks to lead the way. Sidney Hatley, Aubrey James, and Rebekah McIntosh combined for 14 kills.

Hatley had three blocks to go along with her five kills.

Bella Nutt had 21 assists and Lydia Swarnes finished with 10 digs.
