Hunter McAllister will become the fourth different quarterback to start a game for the Airedales' football team Friday.

Alma (1-6, 0-4) travels to Greenbrier to play the 3-5, 2-2 Panthers.

"Kudos to that kid for what he's had to deal with," Alma coach Rusty Bush said. "He's had some times when he wasn't available to play in the games, and he's missed some practices, too."

McAllister played well in the second half of last week's loss to Vilonia.

"He came in and provided a spark we desperately needed," Bush said. "He threw a couple of deep balls that got the connection going to Conner (Stacy). Him just standing there and waiting his turn, I'm super proud of him and look forward to seeing what he can do ... knowing he's the guy."

The Airedales have started three different quarterbacks this season  Brayden Allen, Stacy, and Derek Hatcher. Hatcher will miss this week's game because of COVID.

"I've talked to us the last couple of weeks of trying to be explosive offensively," he said. "We're kind of in this mode of trying not to lose and not going to play to win. We just have to let loose and relax and make some things happen offensively."

There's a slight chance, Bush said, the team could get the services of star running back Logan Chronister this week. He missed last week's game with an ankle injury.

"That hurts you," Bush said. "When you're mule is out, those guys (opponents) know. He may play, but I would call it questionable."

Bush said he expects Chronister to play in the Airedales' regular-season finale against Farmington.

"He has really rehabbed himself with the help of Miss Patti (Webb)," Bush said. "He will play next Friday (Farmington), but this week is questionable."

Valdez another PR

Alma cross country standout Katelyn Valdez earned another PR at the 5A-West Conference meet this week at Vilonia.

Valdez finished 20th overall with a time of 21:36.5.

Jael Nunez and Dallas Welch ran their all-time best at the conference meet, too. Nunez had a PR of 17:48.8 while placing 24th. Welch had a PR with a 27th place finish of 17:54.7.

Martin Nunez was 53rd with a time of 18:57.7. Michael Kelley had a PR finish of 19:02.8 while placing 57th overall.

Grant Allen was 61st, and Blake Williams and Kaden Thomas placed 103rd and 105th, respectively. Thomas earned a PR (22:37.9).
