PEA RIDGE — Alma senior Jacob Coursey picked up his teammates Tuesday night by calmly sinking two free throws with 6.6 left to play to give the Airedales an unlikely 43-42 win over the Pea Ridge Blackhawks.

Alma (1-0) will host Bentonville West Tuesday.

Prior to Coursey's free throws, the Airedales had missed 5-of-6 foul shots during a ninety-second span that saw the Blackhawks build a 42-41 lead after falling behind 40-34.

Nathan Gibson's foul shot put the Airedales ahead, 41-39, with 1:06 left to play, but Pea Ridge junior Jared Brewer canned his eighth 3-pointer a few seconds later to put the Blackhawks ahead 42-41.

Alma led 6-4 after one quarter and opened up an 11-4 lead midway through the second quarter before the Blackhawks ran off 13 straight points for a 17-11 lead.

Alma cut the deficit to 17-16 at the half, and two quick Hunter McAlister baskets gave the Airedales a quick 20-17 lead in the second half. Coursey's 3-pointer from the top of the circle gave Alma a 25-17 cushion, capping a 14-0 scoring run.

Pea Ridge trailed 29-25 after three and didn't lead again until Brewer's 3-pointer with 52.4 left to play.

For Alma, McAlister had a huge night, offensively and defensively. He scored 16 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and collected three steals. Stewart George had eight rebounds as well.

Coursey, Gibson, and Drew Battles chipped in with eight, seven, and six points, respectively.
