Airedales adjust to changes

The Alma Airedales found out this week they wouldn't be able to play their final home game because of weather issues.
A blast of cold air, coupled with snow, will send coach Stan Flenor's crew to Siloam Springs Monday as the first of two potential state tournament play-in games. If Alma wins at Siloam, they'll regroup and head for Greenwood Tuesday.
Because of the standings, and playoff seeds, 5A-West coaches agreed to a District 5A-West tournament. Flenor's crew lost three games to COVID-19 and weather-related issues.
Other teams were in the same boat.
Meanwhile, despite a rough five weeks, two wins this week would send the Airedales to the 5A state tournament.
"It's not what we want, but it's what we're going to do," Flenor said of the schedule changes. "Life is about obstacles and challenges."
Alma (8-11) played five 5A-West home games last month but were scheduled to play just two this month. Tuesday's game with Van Buren was canceled because of cold and snow.
Friday's regular-season finale with Greenbrier was also canceled.
It's a different story for coach Codey Mann's Lady Airedales. Alma will play out its final two home games this week as scheduled, starting with Tuesday's 6 p.m. home finale with the Lady Pointers.
Friday, Mann and the Lady Airedales travel to Greenbrier to close out the season against the Lady Panthers.
