ALMA SCHOOL

Kelsey Shepherd hit a two-run homer as part of a five-run first, and the senior drove in another run as part of a five-run third during Alma’s 12-1 win over Pottsville Thursday.

Alma (13-7) will face Southside Bee Branch (2 p.m. ) and Clinton (4 p.m.) this weekend at the Pottsville Classic.

The run support was plenty for junior pitcher Makenzie Martin. The right-hander scattered five hits and a run while earning her team-leading eighth victory. She also had two of Alma’s 15 hits.

Taelynn Perry smacked two doubles and drove in two runs to raise her overall batting average to .572 (36-for-63). She also matched Bailey Webb for the team lead in runs batted in with 23.

Webb raised her batting average to .466 with a trio of hits, including a run-scoring double.

All nine starters had at least one hit, including freshman Julia Nutt, who produced an RBI double during the team’s five-run third.

Abigail Smith, Shepherd and Perry scored two runs apiece for the winners.

Alma resumes 5A-West play Tuesday at Van Buren.
