The Alma Lady Airedales can almost taste it.

But first, they'll have to earn at least a split of next week's 5A-West doubleheader with Greenbrier to punch their ticket to the state tournament. Alma and Greenbrier are both currently 8-4 in conference play.

Makenzie Martin scattered eight hits and walked just one while helping the Lady Airedales to a 4-2 win over Greenwood on Monday in the opener of their 5A-West doubleheader.

Greenwood, which had already punched its ticket as the conference champion, won the nightcap, 10-0.

Kelsey Shepherd and Jocelyn Harless drove in two runs apiece in Alma's opener, helping stake Martin to a 4-0 lead after three innings of play. Taelynn Perry had two hits to raise her batting average to .541.

Perry went 0-for-2 in the second game as the Lady Airedales managed just four hits.

In the opener, Abigail Smith had two hits to help keep her season batting average at .329.

Alma will host Springdale for Senior Night Friday.
