Caleb Parker set up Camden Curd's go-ahead touchdown with a 30-yard interception return Thursday to power the Airedales' ninth-grade team to a 28-22 win over Morrilton.
Curd added another score with a 30-yard interception return for a touchdown.
Alma (1-0) took a 6-0 lead on Byron Standridge's 10-yard TD run. Morrilton led 15-6 at the half before Curd's interception closed the gap to 15-14.
Israel Towns-Robinson's 3-yard run and Curd's 2-point conversion run helped Alma tie the game at 22-all in the fourth quarter. Parker's interception then set up Curd's clinching 5-yard run.
Curd finished with 40 yards on nine carries. He also completed 3-of-6 passes for 32 yards. Teammate Cash Farris led the team with 77 yards rushing; Towns-Robinson finished with 65 yards rushing and 23 yards receiving.
Volleyball falls, 3-0
Alma’s volleyball team dropped a 25-18, 25-19, 25-11 decision to Hackett on Thursday in non-conference play.
Jenna Williams led the Lady Airedales (2-2) with eight kills and 18 digs. Rachel James, playing with a sore shoulder, finished with five kills and eight assists.
Jocelyn Harless had 11 assists and eight digs for the Lady Airedales. Laila Boyd and Kristen Lindley finished with 11 and 9 digs, respectively.
Alma will face Elkins at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in the first round of the Alma Tournament.
