Airedales, Lady Airedales fall during Classic
By Kevin Taylor
Alma coach Dominic Lincoln got what he wanted when he scheduled the Rogers Mounties for the Charles B. Dyer Classic.
The loss to Subiaco Academy, however, probably left him with a bad taste in his mouth.
Lincoln said he wanted to play Rogers in preparation for the 5A-West play.
The Trojans rallied from an early deficit by doing just enough in a sloppy 36-34 victory. Alma was guilty of 20 turnovers, made only 3-of-19 3-point field attempts, and managed just three points — Stewart George’s 3-pointer — during the second quarter.
Yet, the Trojans left the door open with some mistakes of their own. Subiaco was guilty of 23 turnovers, made just 6-of-10 foul shots, and was just 2-of-13 from deep.
But the Trojans had 13 transition points to Alma’s two.
The Airedales’ Hunter McAlister scored a game-high 21 points on 8-of-19 shooting.
The rest of the team, however, was just 4-of-28. Logan Taylor was 0-for-9, including 0-for-7 from the 3-point line. The senior is averaging 13 points in three road games and just four points during the team’s first three home games.
The Airedales (3-3) will have an opportunity to redeem themselves against the Trojans on Dec. 28.

Coach Codey Mann’s crew went 0-for-2 against two of the top 5A-East teams at the Dyer Classic.
Alma battled Paragould before falling in overtime Friday, 37-34.
Saturday night, they struggled during a 52-29 loss to Greene County Tech. Presli Taylor led Alma (2-4) with six points. Megan Sharp and Halena Dugger added five points each.
The Lady Airedales travel to Texas Thursday to play in the Brookhill Invitational. Alma will face T.K. Gorman, a Tyler private school, Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
