Alma junior Presli Taylor scored via a free kick in the 63rd minute to give the Airedales a 2-1 win over Mountain Home in 5A-West action Friday - Alma’s first conference victory since March 10, 2020.

Alma (3-4-2, 1-4-1) will face Vilonia twice this week, including a makeup game from earlier this season.

The Lady Bombers (4-8-1, 1-5-1) took a 1-0 lead in the 38th minute of Friday’s game. Mountain Home led 1-0 at halftime.

Alma tied the game on the first of Taylor’s goals. Freshman forward Joseline Gonzales was fouled in the 18-yard box in the 43rd minute, and Taylor scored by penalty kick to tie the game.

The Lady Airedales had 11 shots, including six on goal, and controlled possession 54 percent of the match.

Senior Goalkeeper Olivia Spears had five saves in the game.

Alma’s boys squad dropped a 4-1 decision to the Bombers. Alex Dirling assisted Jose Flores to account for Alma’s goal - Flores’ first career goal.

Sophomore goalkeeper Julian Davila had six saves in goal.

Alma’s JV squad fell to the Bombers, 1-0.

The Lady Airedales dropped a pair of non-conference games on Saturday in Morrilton.

The Lady Devil Dogs defeated Alma, 8-4, in the first game. Makenzie Martin suffered the loss.

Martin was 2-for-4 on the day. Kaytlin Willis was 2-for-2 for the Lady Airedales.

Bauxite defeated Alma, 7-5, in the nightcap. Taelynn Perry was 3-for-4 with a home run. Jocelyn Harless was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

The Airedales ran into a hot pitcher on Friday against Southside.

On a day the Airedales celebrated the 2002 state championship squad, Southside senior Bailey Mattingly pitched a six-inning no-hitter in his first start of the season.

A transfer from Sallisaw, Mattingly had been battling injuries before taking the ball.

Alma’s Lucas Hayes was the losing pitcher.

Mattingly allowed two hard-hit balls while striking out seven and walking one.
