Alma’s Martin homers, wins 12th

Julia Nutt drove in three runs and Makenzie Martin smacked her ninth homer of the season as Alma rolled to a 10-0 win over Springdale for its 16th victory of the season. 


Nutt opened the scoring with a two-run double in the first inning. Martin clubbed a solo homer in the sixth inning, finishing 2-for-3 on the day and raising her batting average to .554. Martin’s homer was also the team’s 20th round-tripper of the season. 


Up 3-0 after three innings, Alma struck for six runs in the fourth and one in the sixth to end the game via the mercy rule. 


In the fourth, the first five Alma batters reached, starting with Makenzie Erwin, who was 2-for-4 on the day. Jordan Gramlich and Martin followed with singles to extend the lead to 4-0. Taelynn Perry walked and Gramlich scored on a wild pitch for a 5-0 lead. 


Nutt’s RBI single made it 6-0. Erwin capped the big inning with a two-run single to extend the lead to 9-0. 


Martin did the rest from the circle, striking out 12 and allowing just two hits in the victory. The win was her 12th of the season. She is 26-9 over the last two seasons. 




Alma celebrated Senior Night with some fireworks before falling to Bentonville, 12-6. 


Chandler O’Kelley pitched well into the sixth inning, allowing three earned runs over 5 ⅓ innings. 


Derek Hatcher, Lucas Hayes, and Kaleb Burdick had two hits apiece for the Airedales. Alma built a 5-1 lead after two innings, scoring twice in the first and three times in the second. Hatcher started the scoring with an RBI single. 


Six different players scored runs - Hatcher, Branson Brogan, Burdick, Hayes, Cameron Ray, and Tyson Shepherd. 


Jacob Fraley was 1-for-4 with a double for the Airedales. 


Alma will conclude the regular season Tuesday with Mountain Home.
