Choir and Covid-19
New and returning choir parents,
We had a great first week in choir! We were so happy to see your students. As you know, this year will be unlike any other. In order for us to sing, we have a directive from the state that we have to adhere to. I have attached the directive below. We are keeping your children safe while singing by doing the following:
1. Standing 6 feet apart. In some cases, this is achieved by going outdoors. (not when it's raining like today!)
Feel free to send a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen with your students.
2. Everyone facing the same direction, no curved formations.
3. Wearing well fitting masks any time the student is singing or chanting.
(even if your child has a medical waiver for regular school attendance, this is a must if they want to sing in choir)
The directive from the state says that neck gaiter masks will not be sufficient to keep students safe while singing. Similarly, valved masks are not safe enough for singing. Please send your student with a well-fitting mask that covers their nose and chin.
4. Asking screening questions before any student sings.
This is done via google form on their chromebook. This includes asking if they have had a fever above 100.4 in the last 48 hours. It is very important that we take singers' safety seriously and checking their temperature every morning before sending them to school is very important. If a student doesn't know if they've had a fever, we are able to check their temperature. We have 250 students every day so we would appreciate if you would have them check their temperature every morning! Should a student have 2 or more symptoms, they will visit Nurse Holland to be evaluated. If they cannot sing due to symptoms, their grade will not be affected.
Please us know know if you have any questions at all. We are excited to start singing with your students!
