Alma junior high football coach Derrick Haney was pleased with his team’s effort this week in Tuesday’s scrimmage with Ozark.

“I am really proud of how hard we played during the scrimmage,” Haney said. “Our kids were excited to get to play against someone besides our own teammates.”

Tim Plourde played well. “(Plourde) picked up where he left off from last year and Sam Schlegel makes a great addition to our team.”

Logan English is expected to have a big season. “Our offensive line did really well and opened several holes for our run game,” Haney said.

Haney said he expects Izaac Plourde and Logan Flanagan to run the football. Dylan Jackson and Hudson Loughridge are expected to play well, too.

“Dylan Jackson and Hudson Loughridge are going to be great players for us no matter where you put them,” he said. “Our defensive line with the eighth grade is really physical and played in the backfield most of the game. Daniel Rodriguez will be a great difference on special teams with his kicking abilities.”

The Airedales eighth and ninth-grade teams open the season on Aug. 25 at Morrilton.
