Alma 7th grade romps, 38-0

Alma Schools 

Hagen Goodwin scored two touchdowns and the Alma seventh-grade football team routed Van Buren Northridge last Thursday, 38-0, for its fourth win without a loss. 

Goodwin carried three times for 97 yards and scored on touchdown runs of 57 and 19 yards. Hudson Daily added a 54-yard touchdown run and a pair of two-point conversion runs for the winners. 

Alma quarterback Brayden Davis ran for a touchdown and threw a 57-yard strike to Brantley Martin to account for the other score. Davis also accounted for a pair of two-point conversion runs. 

Also for the Airedales, Mason Gilliam had a 12-yard and a two-yard run for the offense. Landry Jones had two carries for 59 yards, including a 56-yard run. 

Tyler Simon had two carries for eight yards and one reception for seven yards. Sebastian Holcombe also had one reception. 

Tennis

The Alma Airedales tennis team competed against Russellville last Thursday.

Lacey Haughton and Piper Powell earned a doubles victory for the Lady Airedales by a count of 6-4, 6-4. 

Brock Davis and Landon Wilson won their doubles match, and Wilson also earned a singles win. 

Davis and Maleayah Bailey earned a doubles victory as well. 

Volleyball 

The Alma Lady Airedales’ volleyball team dropped a 25-20, 25-17, 25-12 decision to Siloam Springs last Thursday. 

Alma (8-10, 2-4) had beaten Harrison and Russellville for its first two-game conference winning streak in eight years. 

The Lady Airedales, who were paced by Maggie Brogan’s nine kills in Thursday’s loss, travel to Van Buren today.

Rae Smith and Bailey Hoffsommer combined for 23 kills, and Shaleigh Brown dished out 24 assists to pace Alma to an 18-25, 25-23, 25-22, 25-13 volleyball win over Russellville in 5A-West play. Alma’s Josie Minardus contributed 10 kills and three blocks.
