Peace Week Contestants

Congratulations to Alma School District students Drayden Luker and Yurivia Garcia, who have been selected as state finalists in the Arkansas Peace Week Art Contest! Only 10 students per grade level were chosen statewide for this honor.

Drayden Luker – 6th Grade

Art Title: Speak Peace

Artist Statement: “I made two people talking to each other with colorful wind coming out of their mouths, and I also made colorful pieces of glass. I used regular Cra-Z-Art markers. I hope this tells people to talk kindly to each other and inspire others. My favorite part is the breaths in between them, but I wish I could color in more fully.”

Yurivia Garcia – 7th Grade

Art Title: Differences in Peace

Artist Statement: “I created this artwork with colored pencils and Sharpie, and I also used a ruler to make my lines a little straighter. Peace to me means that there is peace between all of these countries because at one point they probably went to war against each other. If people get mad easily in school, they should find a way to calm themselves down. My favorite part is how I did the word ‘peace’ in different languages. My least favorite is how my lines were still crooked even though I used a ruler.”
