Airedales’ junior high squad rolls past Clarksville, 36-14

Alma quarterback Nate Risley didn’t take long to introduce himself to the Clarksville Panthers.
The Alma quarterback dashed 83 yards for a touchdown on the Airedales’ first snap of the game and threw a 68-yard touchdown on the team’s second play late in the first quarter en route to an easy 36-14 victory at Citizens Bank Field at Airedale Stadium.
Risley also threw a 5-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Neighbors to account for the second touchdown and added a short TD run with 11 seconds to play in the half to make it 28-0.
The Airedales’ seventh-grade squad defeated the Panthers, 54-6, thanks to a 48-point first-half explosion.
Hagen Goodwin carried the ball four times for 225 yards and four touchdowns to power the undefeated Airedales (3-0). Alma scored on six of its nine first-half plays, with Goodwin bursting 64 yards for a score on the game’s first play and quarterback Brayden Davis hitting Hudson Daily for 56 yards on the second snap to set up Daily’s short 7-yard touchdown run.
Brantley Martin’s 53-yard burst on the team’s fifth play of the game made it 24-0 and 82-yard touchdown and Basel Romo’s 2-point conversion run extended the lead to 32-0.
Goodwin added a 53-yard touchdown run to give the team a 40-6 halftime lead.
David hit Daily with a 30–yard scoring toss to account for the final score of the game.
Defensively, Rickie Remington led the Airedales with nine tackles. Konner Gryner and Aiden Sharum had five stops apiece, and Cole Chanthaseny and Korbin Pounds finished with four tackles.
Cross Country
Alma senior Nevaeh Kangas took first place (20:55.0) at the Clint Pevril Bomber Invitational on Thursday.
Jasmine Martin placed 18th with a time of 25:26.0. Bree Allen and Tori Muszanski placed 29th and 36th, respectively, with Allen finishing with a time of 27:24.0, and Muszanski coming with a time of 29:42.0.
Teammate Sarah Grimmet was 46th (31:27.0).
Samuel Haig and Caleb Boen paced Alma’s boys squad by finishing 49th and 52nd, respectively.
Golf
The Alma Airedales’ boys golf team finished second, four strokes behind 5A-West foe Harrison, on Thursday at Ben Geren Golf Course.
Grady Farmer led the way with a 73, pacing Alma to a team score of 312. Chase Wood and Carson Curd shot 76 and 79, respectively, for the Airedales.
Jack Taylor shot 84, and Parker Morland fired a 92.
Alma will host the 5A-West meet Sept. 23 at Eagle Crest.
Volleyball
The Alma Lady Airedales defeated the Harrison Lady Goblins, 3-0, in 5A-West action on Thursday for their first conference victory of the season.
The Lady Airedales, 7-8 overall and 1-3 in conference play, travel to Russellville on Tuesday and return home on Thursday to host the Siloam Springs Lady Panthers.

Johnny Thompson’s caught a first-half TD to pull Alma within 12-7, and the Airedales scored 22 third-quarter points en route to a 36-19victory over Springfield (Mo.) Kickapoo to snap the Chiefs’ 13-game win streak. Corey Hamilton’s third-quarter interception return put Alma up to stay.
