Lady Airedales fall in four

The Alma Lady Airedales fell short in a heated match with Van Buren Tuesday, 25-20, 17-25, 25-19, 25-23.

The Lady Airedales finished the first half of 5A-West play with a 2-5 record.

“It’s been very frustrating, honestly, because I know that this team can (win), and I believe this team can (win),” senior Maggie Brogan said. “I don’t know why we haven’t been able to fully (finish) some of the games.”

Chloe Gregory led Alma (8-11, 2-5) with 13 kills. Brogan finished with eight kills and seven aces, including four aces that keyed a 9-0 run in Alma’s 25-17 second-set victory.

Freshman Ryleigh Floyd dished out 35 assists. Josie Welborn had three kills for the Lady Airedales.

“I’m really proud of some adversity they went through,” Alma coach Kimberly Weaver said. “I can’t put into words how proud I am of this bunch.”

The Lady Airedales will host Farmington on Thursday in Charles B. Dyer Arena.

Tennis

The Alma Airedales tennis team competed against Van Buren on Tuesday.

Landon Wilson split a pair of matches, winning 6-1, 6-4, before falling, 7-5, 6-2.

Brock Davis and the doubles team of Chase Wilson and Harrison Mills also split their matches. Davis won his opener, 6-3, 1-6, (11-9), before dropping a set 6-3, 6-1. Chase Wilson and Mills won their second doubles match, 6-4, 6-6 (7-5), 10-7, after losing their first match, 6-2, 6-4.

Additionally, Alma, Layne Goins, and Reagan Thang lost their doubles matches, 6-2, 6-4, and 6-0, 6-1, respectively.

In girls' play, Julie Hargis and Lola Tapia dropped their singles matches.

Lacey Haughton and Piper Powell dropped a pair of doubles matches. Ariel Oliver and Caroline Wood also came up short.

Cross Country

Alma senior Neveah Kangas finished 14th at the Cyclone Invitational this week with a time of 20:48.10.

Teammate Jasmine Martin finished 69th (23:29.00), and Aleeze Williams and Sarah Grimmit finished 137th and 146th, respectively.

For the boys, Caleb Boen and Samuel Haig placed 126th and 135th. Teammate Trace Muszanski was 156th.

Alex Beneux scored four touchdowns and Noah Dotson completed 22-of-26 passes for 193 yards and two touchdowns as Alma steamrolled Siloam Springs, 41-24, for its fourth straight victory. Heath Friddle and Alex Key caught TD passes for the winners.
