The Alma Lady Airedales dropped a four-set decision (24-26, 25-16, 25-18, 25-22) to first-place Farmington in 5A-West play Thursday.
Alma (8-12, 2-6) travels to Shiloh Christian on Tuesday.
“There is a reason they’re (Farmington) in first-place for a reason,” Alma coach Kimberly Weaver said. “We were able to contain Emmerson (Rehkopf) in the first set, which allowed us to get a big lead, and then they were able to get her the ball in the second set.”
Sparked by Maggie Brogan’s two early kills, Alma opened the match with a brisk 10-4 lead in the first set. Farmington rallied to tie the match at 20, but back-to-back kills by Ryleigh Floyd and Breella Hughes helped Alma build a 22-20 lead.
Up one late, Brogan’s kill ended the first set. Brogan led Alma with 14 kills.
Chloe Gregory and Josie Welborn had five and four kills, respectively. Hughes finished with three kills.
