Lady Airedales drop opener, 66-62

BASKETBALL — The Alma Lady Airedales dropped a 66-62 decision to Baptist Prep on Monday in Clarksville in the season opener for both teams.

Mackenzie Moore and Cydney Sanders led the Lady Eagles with 21 and 20 points, respectively. BP (21-7 last season) led 29-25 at the half and 54-40 after three quarters.

Junior Brooklynn Holt poured in a career-high 26 points for the Lady Airedales. Sophomores Olivia Hughes and Jaeli Morris finished with 13 and eight points for the Airedales.

Freshman Collins Driscoll had seven points, and senior Breella Hughes finished with four.

The Lady Airedales forced 18 turnovers and had 19 transition points.

Alma will face the No. 1 team in 4A today in Robinson at 8:30 p.m.

Football

Alma senior football standout Samuel Schlegel caught five passes for 15 yards, including a touchdown, in the team’s season finale last week at Farmington. He also recorded his first interception of the season.

Schlegel’s final numbers include the second-most receptions (130) and yards receiving (2,058) in school history.

Junior Dylan Jackson caught 11 passes for 149 yards and a touchdown to finish on a strong note. The speedy receiver ended the 2025 season with five straight 100-yard receiving efforts.

Jackson hauled in 48 passes for 914 yards - the third most among 5A receivers.

Sophomore running back Dallas Perkins finished with 109 yards rushing, including a 56-yard touchdown run. He finished with 901 yards and nine touchdowns.

Sophomore quarterback Jay Lemieux passed for 220 yards and two scores. He finished the season with 1,290 passing yards and 10 touchdowns.

Cross Country

Alma senior Neveah Kangas finished her illustrious career with a fifth-place finish at the 5A state cross country meet in Hot Springs.

Kangas finished with a time of 20:11.21. Teammate Jasmine Martin was 84th, and Bree Allen and Sophia Kimes placed 107th and 119th. Aleeze Williams finished 132nd, and Sarah Grimmet placed 174th.

Alma senior Samuel Haig paced the boys with a 149th-place finish. Connor Langston and Trace Muszanski placed 166th and 170th, respectively.
