Newcomb-led Airedales rip Lincoln Christian, 84-53

Shep Newcomb had a second consecutive double-double in Alma’s 84-53 blowout win of Lincoln Christian Thursday at the Sequoyah Tournament.

Newcomb finished with 27 points and 11 rebounds as the Airedales won for the seventh time in 10 games. Junior Cade Moore scored a career-high 14 points in just 12 minutes of playing time. He was 7-of-7 from the floor.

Alma teammates Luke Stogsdill and Brody Johnson finished with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

It’s the third time the Airedales have hit 80 points or more in a game this season — a feat that hadn’t been accomplished since doing it four times in the 2009-10 season.

Sequoyah 58, Alma 38

GIRLS — Host Sequoyah raced out to a 23-7 lead after one quarter and handed Alma its biggest loss of the season Thursday, 58-38, at the Tahlequah Sequoyah Tournament.

Freshman Collins Driscoll led Alma (4-5) with 12 points. Freshman Ryleigh Floyd added nine, and sophomore Olivia Hughes added eight.

Brooklynn Holt and Jaeli Morris finished with five and four points, respectively. Prairie Holmes led the Lady Indians with 14 points. Sequoyah outrebounded Alma 45-26, including an 18-6 advantage on the offensive end.

Alma 30, Bentonville West 27

FRESHMEN GIRLS — Hallie Morris drained two first-quarter 3-pointers and finished with a team-high 8 points in Alma’s hard-fought 30-27 win over Bentonville West Thursday.

Bristol Welch added six points, and Eden Hamilton and Harper Workman added five apiece. Alma overcame a scoreless second quarter.

Also for Alma, Bryleigh Moore scored four points, and Chloee Hatman added two.
