Lady Airedales fall to Pointers

The Lady Airedales dropped a tough 10-5 decision to the Van Buren Lady Pointers Tuesday in 5A-West play.

Alma (4-6, 2-3) took an early 2-0 lead on Harper Jernigan’s two-out, two-run single in the first inning. Jasslyn Boone and Bella Plourde added RBI singles in the second to extend the lead to 4-0.

Jaidon Humphrey’s RBI single made it 5-0 in the third inning.

But the Pointers started to chip away with four doubles in the fourth inning. Camryn Waters, who led the Lady Pointers (1-8, 1-4) with three hits, doubled to open the inning. Anna Stainer, Mabrey Youngblood, and Jaylei Downs followed with RBI doubles to cut Alma’s lead to 5-3.

Van Buren tied the game at 5-5 with a pair of runs in the fifth inning on RBI singles by Waters and Stainer.

Stainer put the Pointer's head for good with a tie-breaking RBI single in the seventh, and Youngblood’s two-run single made it 8-5.

Alma travels to Mountain Home on Thursday.

Van Buren 6, Alma 4

BASEBALL - The Alma Airedales had Van Buren ace Weston Wilcox on the ropes.

But freshman Trenton Glover picked him up with a two-out, go-ahead RBI single in the seventh inning of the Pointers’ 6-4 win over the Airedales Tuesday.

Alma stole six bases from Glover, the team’s catcher. But the Pointers scored twice late to improve to 6-4.

Logan English pitched well for the Airedales, 4-7, 2-3

Sammy Moore’s RBI single gave Alma a brief 4-3 lead in the fourth against Wilcox. The hard-throwing all-state right-hander entered Tuesday’s game boasting an 0.88 earned run average.

He allowed four runs (all earned), five hits, five walks, and had four strikeouts for the winners (9-4, 4-1).

Izaac Plourde added an RBI single for the Airedales.

Alma 1, Van Buren 0

SOCCER - Jasmine Martin’s late goal helped the Lady Airedales to a 1-0 win over Van Buren in 5A-West play Tuesday.

Martin’s goal game with 1:47 left in the match, and gave Alma its second win over Van Buren in 11 games.

Keeper Kali Wasson did the rest as Alma snapped a three-game losing streak with its second league win of the season.

Alma (4-4, 2-4) travels to Mountain Home on Thursday.

The Airedales’ boys team dropped a 6-0 decision to the Pointers. Goalie Lukas Todd had 11 saves.

Tuesday’s game marked the first game this season for Daniel Rodriguez, following leg surgery last December.
