Alma Intermediate teacher Jenny Dumond recently returned from an incredible professional learning experience in Yellowstone National Park after being selected for the highly competitive STEAM Teacher Workshop, a partnership between Yellowstone Forever and the National Park Service.
Dumond applied in November and earned one of just 12 spots per two sessions through a rigorous selection process that brings together educators from across the country. The week-long workshop focused on hands-on, place-based learning in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math (STEAM), with Yellowstone serving as a living laboratory for instruction.
Throughout the experience, participants engaged in immersive field study exploring ecosystems, matter cycling, geology, ecology, and cultural history. These real-world applications provided meaningful resources that Dumond plans to integrate directly into her science instruction at Alma Intermediate.
The program is designed to support educators in bringing experiential, inquiry-based learning back to their classrooms and strengthening student engagement through authentic scientific exploration.
