After exploring adaptations, natural selection, and the concept of “survival of the fittest,” students in Mrs. Price’s class at Alma Middle School put their understanding into action with a hands-on camouflage challenge. They created paper butterflies designed to blend into their surroundings and hid them around the classroom.
Principals Coursey and Stone stepped in as “predators,” racing against the clock to find and tag as many butterflies as possible in just three minutes. Out of 110 butterflies, 36 remained undiscovered - highlighting how effective camouflage can be for survival.

Alma School District is proud to be a Purple Star District, recognizing our commitment to supporting military-connected students and their families.
April is the Month of the Military Child, a time to honor the strength, resilience, and sacrifices of these amazing students.
At Alma Intermediate School, students and staff have been celebrating in meaningful ways:
💜 Wearing purple on Fridays to show support for military kids
⭐ Sending letters home to learn about families’ military journeys
🗺️ Creating a special display - thanks to Kristi Weir, Jennifer Anderson, and Jennifer Hardin - mapping out where our military families have been stationed around the world
📸 Capturing a group photo of our incredible military-connected students and discussing the importance of their parents’ service to our country
We are proud of our military families and grateful for their service and sacrifice. Join us in celebrating and supporting our military children this month!

Our Airewaves Media students recently had an awesome experience at the SkillsUSA Competition in Hot Springs, along with a behind-the-scenes tour of KARK and KLRT TV stations in Little Rock!
While we didn’t place in any categories this year, our students gained valuable real-world experience, learned from industry professionals, and represented our program with pride.
We’re proud of their hard work and can’t wait to see how they grow from this opportunity.

On March 16, Alma Middle School’s The Airedale Post Yearbook Staff enjoyed a well-earned trip to Heritage Portraits for a hands-on learning experience with professional photographers.
Students explored the art of studio photography, learning about lighting, background selection, posing, composition, editing, and printing. This real-world experience gave them a deeper understanding of what it takes to create high-quality images - skills they can continue to use in their yearbook production.
The trip also celebrated their hard work in completing the yearbook ahead of the deadline! Students enjoyed lunch at Chick-fil-A and finished the day with a stop at 7 Brew Coffee.
This experience was both educational and rewarding, allowing students to learn, celebrate, and grow together as a team after a successful year.

The 5th-grade ambassadors at Alma Intermediate School recently hosted a Hat Day fundraiser!
Led by Mrs. Yates, the ambassadors take on both a school service project and a community outreach project each year. This year, they kept their outreach project a surprise - and it was well worth the wait!
Their “$1 Hat Day” raised funds for a special guest: an animal rescue organization that visited campus last week. Students enjoyed an interactive presentation and even had the chance to meet several animals up close while learning about their care.
Although the visit itself was free, the organization depends on donations. We’re proud to share that 100% of the funds raised went directly toward supporting and caring for these animals.
Way to go, ambassadors, for making a difference in our community!

Alma Middle School students took the stage this spring with an outstanding performance of The Redemption of Gertie Greene!
Featuring a cast of 40 middle school students and 3 high school performers, the production combined humor and meaningful themes while addressing real-life issues like bullying and gossip.
Sixth grader Reese Belcher led the cast as Gertie, reminding us all of the importance of looking beyond first impressions and choosing kindness, courage, and doing what’s right.

No trophy this time - but what a showing at the State Quiz Bowl Tournament for our varsity team!
They averaged 100 questions all day and doubled that in their final match against one of the top teams in the state. This marks the second time in four years our varsity squad has made it to state - an incredible accomplishment!
These students are setting the standard and building a strong foundation for the future of this program. We couldn’t be prouder of their hard work and determination.
