Our Primary and Intermediate students are making strong gains in literacy as classrooms continue to focus on targeted reading instruction. Teachers are utilizing Lexia to meet students where they are and support individualized learning needs. Students can also access Lexia at home using their school login, extending learning beyond the classroom.

The displays featured throughout our buildings highlight student progress and Lexia levels as learners build essential literacy skills each day. We are proud of the hard work and growth happening across our schools—this is Literacy in Action!

Alma High School engineering students recently participated in a hands-on field experience at Rheem Manufacturing, exploring how engineering concepts are applied in a real-world industrial setting.

During the visit, students learned about internship opportunities, engineering careers, and the wide range of roles available in advanced manufacturing. The tour was led by Alma alumni Bryzen Kimes and Nathan Gibson, who shared their own career experiences and insights.

Rheem professionals also discussed daily operations, innovation, and the skills needed for success in the manufacturing industry - helping students connect classroom learning to future career pathways

🧪 Science in Action at Alma Middle School 🧠

Students in Mrs. Price’s class at Alma Middle School have been diving into an exciting science investigation since returning from winter break. As part of their study of the digestive system, students worked to “diagnose” a patient with digestive issues by learning how the human body processes food.

To test the theory that nutrients are absorbed into the bloodstream in the small intestine, students conducted a hands-on lab using dialysis tubing to simulate intestines. Glucose and starch solutions were placed inside the tubing to represent food, and the model intestines were submerged in distilled water and left over the weekend. When students returned, they tested the water outside the tubing to see if any food molecules had passed through.

So… what did they discover? 🧐

Through this engaging experiment, students saw firsthand how nutrient absorption works - bringing science to life through inquiry, teamwork, and real-world connections.

Congratulations to Our Patriot’s Pen Winners!

This fall, students in Mrs. Kannett’s RTI session worked hard on essays for the VFW Patriot’s Pen contest, themed “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”

We’re proud to share that three Alma Middle School students were recognized at the Robert Jack VFW monthly meeting on January 5:
🥇 Lauren Walker – 1st Place
🥈 Tatum Elliott – 2nd Place
🥉 Sullivan Ware – 3rd Place

All three students received certificates and monetary awards, and Lauren Walker had the honor of reading her essay aloud to the veterans. Her essay has also advanced to the regional contest!

Great work to these students and to Mrs. Kannett for guiding them - we are proud!
