Hughes, Lady Airedales take 3rd at Sequoyah Invitational

Olivia Hughes made 7-of-11 3-point attempts and finished with a career-high 29 points in Alma’s 70-49 rout of McAlester Saturday in the third-place game of the Sequoyah Invitational.
Hughes added six steals, two assists, and three rebounds in the victory.
Brooklynn Holt had 12 points in the team’s victory, its sixth of the season, and its fifth road win. Alma has played just twice at home. Jaeli Morris finished with eight points, and Haven Baxter added five.
The Lady Airedales, who had rolled to a 56-38 win over Muldrow a day earlier, face St. Pius X (Kansas City) this Friday at Hyvee Arena in Kansas City, Mo.
Sapulpa, Okla. 54, Alma 49
BOYS — The Sapulpa Chieftains erased a six-point deficit in the final four minutes by outsourcing the Aireales, 15-4, to claim the Sequoyah Invitational Saturday night, snapping Alma’s mini three-game winning streak.
The Airedales (8-4) travel to Clarksville and Rogers this week before hosting Cedarville on Dec. 30.
Lawson Adams and Shep Newcomb led the Airedales with 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Bentonville West 48, Alma 43
FRESHMEN BOYS — The Alma freshmen boys basketball team suffered a 48-43 loss to Bentonville West.
Aiden Caldwell and Aiden Kimes combined for 29 points for the Airedales, with Caldwell scoring 15 points in just 28 minutes of playing time.
Nate Risley and Barrett Curd finished with six points each, and Jake Johnson had two.
