Welborn wins two events at Lady Airedales’ track meet
The Alma Lady Airedales competed at the Van Buren Field Events Festival on Tuesday.
Josie Welborn took first place in the high jump with a leap of 5-4. The mark to qualify for state was 5-3, so Welborn is already set for the state meet in two months.
Welborn also took first place in the long jump with a leap of 17-6 ½.
Alma sophomore Olivia Whipple was third (16-2) in the long jump and sixth (30-6) in the triple jump.
Pea Ridge 7, Alma 4
BASEBALL - The Alma Airedales dropped their season opener to Pea Ridge on Tuesday, 7-4.
The Blackhawks took a 1-0 lead after four innings.
Logan English allowed one run and struck out nine in four innings. Carson Hamilton allowed five runs (two earned) in ⅔ of an inning.
Down 7-0 in the seventh, Alma closed to within three on Izaac Plourde’s two-run double and RBI singles by Aiden Keith and Brody Baldwin.
Alma 8, Booneville 6
SOFTBALL - Harper Jernigan struck out a career-high 14, and the Alma Lady Airedales held on for an 8-6 win over Booneville Tuesday to even their season record at 1-1.
Alma dropped its season opener Monday against Dardanelle, 9-7. Jernigan, Bella Plourde, and Jaidon Humphrey had two hits apiece for the Airedales.
