Kangas dazzles at Alma meet

Alma senior Nevaeh Kangas came up big at the Leonard Daniel Relays on Thursday.

She won the 1600 meters (5:44.97) and also captured first in the 3200 meters with a time of 12:45.76.

But she wasn’t done.

Kangas also took first in the 800 meters with a time of 2:32.74, helping the Lady Airedales to a runner-up finish in their own meet.

Alma teammate Jaeli Morris won the shot put with a heave of 30-9. The Alma sophomore took third (81-0) in the discus.

Sophomore Olivia Whipple placed second in the triple jump (31-11) and second in the long jump (16-1). Whipple was fourth in the 100 and 200 meters.

Airedale senior Demetrius Humphrey was second (125-4) in the discus and fifth in the shot put. Teammate Ben Jones was fourth in the shot put, and Owen McCoy placed fifth in the 400 meters.

Mountain Home 4, Alma 2

BASEBALL - The Alma Airedales dropped a tough 4-2 decision to the Mountain Home Bombers in 5A-West play on Thursday.

Braden Green pitched well in the loss. The Airedales (4-8, 2-4) host Clarksville on Monday.

Down 1-0 in the fourth, Izaac Plourde’s RBI single tied the game at 1-1.

The Bombers (10-3, 6-0) responded with three runs in their half of the fourth.

Alma pushed across an unearned run in the sixth inning, closing to within 4-2.

Brycen Lester led the Airedales with a pair of hits.

Mountain Home 6, Alma 5

SOFTBALL - The Alma Lady Airedales suffered a 6-5 loss to the Mountain Home Lady Bombers in 5A-West action on Thursday.

The Lady Airedales (4-8, 2-4) return to action on Monday with a nonconference game against Southside. Alma travels to Waldron on Thursday and returns home on April 10 to host Siloam Springs.

Mountain Home 1, Alma 0

SOCCER - The Alma boys and girls soccer teams dropped 1-0 decisions to Mountain Home on Thursday.

The Lady Airedales (4-5, 2-4) will host Siloam Springs in league play on April 10.

The Airedales, now 4-4 overall and 3-3 in 5A-West play, host the same Panthers on April 10.
