Alma School Board Approves Kevin Hesslen as New Superintendent

Alma, AR — The Alma School District Board of Education has approved the hiring of Kevin Hesslen as the district’s next superintendent during its regularly scheduled board meeting on Thursday, April 9.

Hesslen brings more than 30 years of experience in education, including extensive leadership in district administration, school improvement, and academic programming. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to student success, staff development, and community engagement.

Currently serving as Deputy Superintendent at Greenwood School District, Hesslen has led districtwide operations, overseen academic programs, and guided strategic planning initiatives that have strengthened student outcomes and organizational effectiveness.

Hesslen previously served as a teacher and coach in the Alma School District from 1998 to 2001 before continuing his career at Greenwood. His prior experience in Alma provides a strong foundation and familiarity with the district and community he now returns to lead.

Over the course of his career, Hesslen has also served as an assistant superintendent, principal, and educator, gaining valuable experience across all levels of public education. His leadership has included curriculum development, staff supervision, facility improvements, and fostering strong school cultures focused on achievement.

Hesslen is expected to officially assume his role as superintendent on July 1, 2026.
