Hamilton’s bat, arm fuel Alma past Cyclones, 6-0

Carson Hamilton mowed down Russellville by striking out 12 and pitching a two-hit shutout in Tuesday’s 6-0 5A-West victory.

The sophomore right-hander won his team-leading third game and raised his team-best batting average to .380 as the Airedales completed the season sweep of the Cyclones.

Hamilton (3-2) lowered his earned run average to 3.25 while collecting his team-high 19th hit of the season.

Sammy Moore’s two-run triple highlighted a four-run fifth for the Airedales (7-10, 3-4). Alma took a 1-0 lead in the third inning when Brycen Lester legged out an infield single, and Carson Curd followed with an RBI triple.

Cade Moore’s RBI grounder extended the lead to 2-0 in the fourth. Logan English singled home the third run of the game in the fifth, and Sammy Moore’s two-run triple extended the lead to 5-0.

Izaac Plourde, who had two hits, blooped an RBI single to right to score Moore with the sixth run.

Hamilton did the rest, allowing just two hits and not walking anyone.

Alma won the junior varsity game 6-0. Left-hander Landon Taylor tossed three scoreless innings, striking out five and not walking anyone. He’s pitched six straight scoreless innings.

Malachi Houck and Jay Lemieux also pitched scoreless innings for the winners.

Carson Avant added an RBI double.

Alma 8, Russellville 3

SOFTBALL - Annie Davis had herself a day on Tuesday.

The Alma senior belted her second homer of the season and went 4-for-4 with three RBIs in the Lady Airedales’ 8-3 win over Russellville, giving the team the season sweep.

Bella Plourde’s two-run double opened the scoring for the Lady Airedales. Winning pitcher Harper Jernigan’s RBI grounder put the Airedales ahead 3-2 in the second inning.

Jernigan had a strong outing, striking out five and allowing just one earned run over seven innings.

Jaslyn Boone and Davis added back-to-back RBI doubles to give the Lady Airedales a 5-2 lead.

Davis, who raised her batting average to .350 and added to her team-high RBI total (15), smacked a two-run homer in the sixth to account for the final scoring.
