Martin sisters help spark Alma to cross-country win

Paced by Brianna Martin’s second-place finish (23:09.43), the Alma Lady Airedales won the Danville Little John Invitational with 26 points.

Martin’s older sister, junior Jasmine Martin, finished fifth (24:02.44), and Alma freshman Saydee Hammonds took sixth (24:57.07).

Alma senior Bree Allen was ninth (25:31.75), and teammates Gracelyn Edwards (26:00.49) and Jessica Tanedo (26:51.33) were 12th and 14th, respectively.

Tori Muszanski was 31st, and Sophia Kimes and Zoey Kangas finished 38th and 45th.

Tyce Bray and Jason Rasmussen helped lead the Alma boys team to a fourth-place finish, with Bray taking 14th with a time of 20:07.56 and Rasmussen 18h ( 20:52.10.

Also for Alma, Trace Muszanski, Xsavier Hackler, and Bentley Allen finished 30th, 34th, and 39th.

Football

Junior Dallas Perkins piggybacked off last week's 242-yard effort against Russellville by punishing Vilonia for 177 yards and two more touchdowns Friday to power Alma to a 28-17 win over the Eagles at Citizens Bank Field at Airedale Stadium.

Alma (2-1) opens 5A-West play Sept. 25 against Clarksville.

Trailing 3-0, Alma took the lead for good on Perkins’ 25-yard TD run with 11:07 to play in the half. Quarterback Jay Lemieux hooked up with Dylan Jackson on a 69-yard touchdown pass three minutes later to make it 14-3.

Alma extended the lead to 28-10 late in the first half thanks to a pair of touchdowns, with Perkins busting loose from the 29 and Lemieux tossing a 6-yarder to Jackson.

Golf

Jack Taylor shot a 71 to help lead Alma to a three-stroke win over Shilo Christian in the team’s final 5A-West tuneup for next week’s conference meet in Mountain Home.

Alma finished the meet at Ben Geren with a 304, followed by Shilo Christian (307) and Greenwood (310).

Chase Wood and Carson Curd each shot 76 and 78, respectively, with Parker Morland shooting 79 and Caden Hesson 81.

The conference meet begins today.
