Today, Alma High School had the privilege of welcoming U.S. Congressman Steve Womack to campus! He toured our state-of-the-art facilities, met with Alma Agricultural Education & FFA Chapter students, and engaged in insightful discussions about the future of agriculture.
Students asked thoughtful questions, shared their passion, and showcased the incredible opportunities at Alma. Congressman Womack emphasized the importance of agricultural education and even presented students with challenge coins as a token of appreciation.
A truly inspiring visit that reinforced the vital role of agriculture in our community and beyond!
Mr. Merritt's AP Physics 1 class at Alma High School recently had a hands-on lesson at the Skokos Performing Arts Center-Alma! In collaboration with Mr. Sellers and Mr. Thomas, students spent a class period learning how to safely operate the rigging, focusing on pulleys and how they provide mechanical advantage and change force direction. The class explored how technical theater and physics are connected and saw how the pulley concepts they study in class are applied in real-world engineering.

Alma High School had an outstanding day at CPA last Thursday, earning top marks across the board! All AHS Choirs received superior ratings in both stage performance and the sight-reading room, achieving a clean sweep of straight 1’s. As a result of their exceptional performances, the Chamber, Honors, and Concert Choirs have qualified to advance to the State CPA in April! We are incredibly proud of our talented students and their hard work.
On Tuesday, March 11th, 28 of our students attended the Be Pro Be Proud Draft Day at Peak Innovation Center! This hands-on experience connected students with top employers and training providers in high-demand technical careers. With 23 school districts and 40+ employers in attendance, students explored exciting career paths, participated in industry simulations, and even secured job offers before graduation! This wasn’t just a career fair — it was a launchpad for students eager to jumpstart their futures! From hands-on skills training to real-world job interviews, our students made the most of this opportunity to network with industry leaders and take the next step toward their careers. These industries are shaping the future, and our students are ready to be a part of it! Congratulations to Brylynn Lamproe for qualifying in three events at the 5A State Championship as a freshman! Athletes can only compete in two, and she chose the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard freestyle this Saturday in Russellville. 50 Free – 15th Place. and 100 Free – 14th Place. Way to go, Brylynn! Senior Night was a night to remember! On Friday, February 28, at the final home basketball game, we honored the senior students from basketball, cheer, dance, choir, and the airewaves media team. These dedicated seniors have poured countless hours into their teams and organizations, demonstrating their hard work, passion, and school spirit. The junior high basketball tournament at Harrison scheduled for this upcoming week has been canceled due to the anticipated inclement weather.
Today, high school students, under the guidance of Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Ikenberry, participated in mock interviews conducted by board members of the Alma Area Chamber of Commerce. These interviews gave students a valuable opportunity to develop and refine their interview skills. Engaging conversations took place, giving students meaningful experience in this essential area. A huge thank you to Mrs. Johnson and Mrs. Ikenberry for their continued dedication. Special appreciation also goes to Bryan Huff (Chamber President), Sara Peters, and Douglas Bowen for their time and support in making this activity a success!

He’s set to be inducted into the Arkansas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame, and we’re throwing a celebration in his honor! Join us on Tuesday, February 25, 2025, as we recognize Coach Flenor during halftime of the varsity boys' basketball game against Van Buren. Mrs. King's College and Career classes recently welcomed a special visitor as the Army National Guard stopped by to speak with them. During the visit, representatives from the Army National Guard shared insights about career opportunities, educational benefits, and the skills gained through military service. Students had the opportunity to ask questions and learn firsthand about the experiences of those serving in the National Guard. The visit provided valuable information for those considering military service as a potential career path. Mrs. King emphasized the importance of exposing students to diverse career options, stating that guest speakers like the Army National Guard help students make informed decisions about their futures.

Alma High School was buzzing with excitement as we hosted the 5A West Junior High Regional Tournament! Both our 9th grade Quiz Bowl team and Alma Middle School (7th/8th grade) team brought their A-game, competing with skill and determination. Shoutout to Michael Linimon for earning All-Tournament honors — way to go! It was an awesome experience for our Quiz Bowl players, filled with fun, teamwork, and brainpower. Huge thanks to Mr. Bridges for always going the extra mile to support our students and make events like Quiz Bowl unforgettable!
Alma Choir State Qualifiers Hit the High Notes at All-State Workshop!
This past Saturday, January 25th, the Alma High School choir state qualifiers headed to the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville for an awesome, all-day All-State workshop! The students worked hard to fine-tune their musical skills and get ready for their All-State Choir auditions. They had the chance to jam with U of A’s choral professors, student conductors, and staff, plus they were treated to an amazing performance by the university’s chorale that left everyone feeling inspired!
Slam Dunk Story Time keeps growing and thriving! This past Friday, between the girls' and boys' varsity basketball games, more than 75 excited kids gathered for an energetic and fun-filled story time. The event emphasized the power of community, with Dr. Urrutia serving as the guest reader. Kids left with big smiles, a sweet treat, and a brand-new book to take home. Mark your calendars for January 7, when Alma's mayor will be our special guest reader!
