All Alma School District campuses and offices will be CLOSED for the WINTER BREAK from Monday, December 23, through Friday, January 3, in observance of the Christmas and New Year's holidays. ASD employees will resume work on Monday, January 6, and ASD students will return to school for the second semester on Tuesday, January 7. Third grade students have been learning about narrative writing the last few weeks and got to share their own pourquoi tales with each other during a special Frog Festival! Mr. Frog even captured Ms. Hall's elf, Snowflake, because he wanted her to join in on the froggy fun too.

Mr. Bridges recently organized chess tryouts for 4th and 5th graders at Alma Intermediate School. He was truly impressed by the student's performance and attentiveness to instruction. In response, the GT department purchased chess boards for every classroom, allowing students to further develop their skills. Since team spots were limited, Mr. Bridges encouraged those who didn't make the team to keep practicing and enhancing their abilities. We are excited to see how this activity will continue to evolve! Alma Intermediate School happenings! Mrs. Feurtado continues to bring excitement to the Alma Intermediate Library! This week, students read "Balloons Over Broadway," which explores the history of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. After this engaging story, they had the opportunity to unleash their creativity by crafting their own parade balloons using foil. The creativity was off the charts! Wednesday was celebrated as World Kindness Day! Ms. Hall at Alma Intermediate School took this opportunity to create a memorable experience for the 3rd graders. Smokey the Bear, accompanied by several of his friends, made a delightful visit that was cherished by all! They handed out stickers, answered questions, provided goodie bags for the teachers, and gave students the chance to take photos with Smokey! We are truly thankful to the Cass Job Corps team and Smokey for their time and generosity. Remember, being KIND is always COOL!

They poured their hearts into making this event unforgettable, particularly for those who have served or are currently serving. This week, we set sail and celebrated National School Lunch Week in cafeterias throughout the district! Established in 1962 by President John F. Kennedy, National School Lunch Week (NSLW) has annually highlighted the significance of a nutritious school lunch in a child's life and its effects both inside and outside the classroom. This year's theme, “School Lunch Pirates: Find Your Treasure,” underscored the essential role that healthy school lunches play in students' academic and social success. The Child Nutrition Workers at Alma School District truly went above and beyond, wearing their best pirate attire and turning their kitchens into a pirate paradise! A huge shoutout to them for their unwavering dedication, especially this week, for transforming lunchtime into an exciting treasure hunt for all the students!
This week, the GT students from the 4th and 5th grades had the chance to explore the Arkansas Tech campus in Russellville. They toured lecture halls, science laboratories, dormitories, and an art gallery, and even met Jerry the Bulldog, the university's ambassador. This experience provided our GT students with a glimpse of how they can pursue their education close to home while inspiring thoughts about their future aspirations. A big thank you to Mr. Bridges for creating this wonderful opportunity for our students.
Goodies with Grands was a tremendous success at Alma Intermediate on Monday afternoon! Grandparents and other cherished individuals were welcomed to share snacks and browse the book fair alongside their students. Parent-teacher conferences are set for this week, taking place on the evening of Thursday, October 17, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, and all day on Friday, October 18. Please note that there will be no school for students on Friday, October 18. Additionally, students will not attend school on Monday, October 21st, as it is designated as a teacher workday. Classes will resume on Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

Mrs. Walden’s crew is grooving their way into 3rd grade! Last night, they rocked the stage with their debut performance, taking us back to the fabulous 1970s with classics like YMCA, their very own rendition of The Village People, Shake Your Groove Thing, and Lean on Me — total chart-toppers from the disco decade! And because flowers were the talk of the town back then, they couldn’t resist belting out Each of Us is a Flower. The kids had a blast shaking their scarves and jingling their maracas to the beat! Meanwhile, Mrs. Walden filled the air with the history of each tune as proud parents watched and cheered. What a night of fun and funky vibes for these little stars and their families! 🌼✨
